How very "Pin-teresting"

I blame it on my dad. (Love ya, Dad:)

When we were kids, my brother and I begged my dad to get a VCR.  For years and years, all of my friends were renting movies and watching them at home.  Not us...we heard from my dad that VCRs were a fad, unnecessary and too expensive.  One day my dad surprised us all when he walked in the door with a VCR.  We were all giddy with excitement...except that there was this new thing out called a DVD player.  Yes, we had finally gotten a VCR and wouldn't you know their was a new "fad" out a DVD player.  It wasn't long before you couldn't find a single VCR tape at the rental places because DVDs were the new thing.  Oh the sadness...

So, I believe I got this thing from my dad.  You know where you stick with all things old school because you are always questioning whether something is a fad.  Which means I am usually the last on board with everything.  Enter Pinterest.  Several of my friends have said forever..."You have to do Pinterest, you will LOVE it."  I was always like, "Oh no, I'm good.  I have hundreds of bookmarks on my computer with the ideas that I want to re-create some day."  What I did not realize was how much time I was wasting by going through all of my bookmarks to find the idea I was looking for.  Pinterest is so cool because your ideas are categorized on your boards by whatever categories you want to set and there are pictures and links to the ideas.  I just joined Pinterest last week.  I am hoping that it is not going to be like the VCR where everyone moves on to something else new.  Ha!  Because right now I am loving it!

I have been moving all of my bookmarks over to pins on my board and it has really inspired me to get to work on these ideas.  So, here is the first things that I have created off of my Easter board.  I found this pin and I loved it for our door.  I couldn't wait to get to work on my own version...
I went to Hobby Lobby and found the cross in the unfinished wood section.  It was $11.99, but I had a 40% off coupon for it.  So, I got it for $7.19.  I had all of the other supplies at home.  (My mom and I split the cost of a Silhouette cutter machine during the day after Thanksgiving sale.  We got it as our Christmas gift.  She has been kind enough to let me keep it at our house for the last few months and I am just now getting the hang of it.)  I painted the cross with a coat of bright green acrylic paint, cut out the words and the polka dots from vinyl using the Silhouette and then I added a ribbon.  There you have it!  My first creation from Pinterest.

My other creations were Easter buckets for the kids.  I used this pin as inspiration and then I made all of the kids their own buckets.

The buckets were also found at Hobby Lobby, they are $7.99 ea, but all of the Easter items are 40% off, so they were only $4.79 ea.  I also found some fake grass that looks more realistic than the stringy stuff that ends up all over the house.  It will actually sit in the bottom of the baskets, but I raised it for the pictures so that you could see it.

I love how they turned out!

  7. I have always been one of the last people to give in and follow a fad. By the time I do...it is not a fad for much longer! Ha! I know everyone does pinterest...but I haven't desired to do so...yet.

I may do it at some point...but...maybe not! I am undecided. (:>) Your crosses for the door are neat though. And the pails are adorable.
