Each year my husband and I get each of our children a hardback book for Christmas. It is usually a book that has some connection with something our child has experienced that year or a book that we feel will have meaning to them someday. We both write a message in the front cover of the book about their past year and our emotions about that child and then we sign and date the book. One day when our children are grown, they will have a collection of books to keep and hopefully treasure with heart felt messages from their loving parents in them.
This year I found the perfect book for Elijah. It is an adorable book called: I Wished for You...An Adoption Story By: Marianne Richmond. It is a story of a baby bear talking to his momma bear. It is simply precious and it touches on every single emotion we have felt during this journey so far. One of my favorite parts is when it states:

"When I first wished my wish, " said Mama to Barley, "I didn't know your name. Or if you'd be a boy or girl. But that didn't stop my wishing. I asked God to look around and find the child who would be the perfect one for me." "Barley," said Mama, her eyes spilling over with tears. "Of all the children in the whole wide world, God picked YOU for me." This made Barley feel really special. There are lots of children in the world, he reminded himself. And God picked him!I really could recite the entire book because it is just so darling. If you are an adoptive parent or a soon to be adoptive parent, I would absolutely recommend this precious book for your child. This Christmas it will be the first book in Elijah's collection and I long for the day when we hold him in our arms and read this story to him.

What a great idea to give a book at Christmas for each child. With my 5 children, I will have a library-full by the time they are grown!!! Seriously though, I love this idea and might try it too!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks precious. As my little guy is getting older and appreciating being read to more and more, I would love to get books on adoption that he can understand. This one looks perfect! Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I have goose bumps. What a sweet sweet book & what a neat tradition! Elijah will love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a most wonderful tradition! I love it. Of course it involves books and sentimental things so I am a big fan :) What a special thing your children will get to share with their children one day.
ReplyDeleteAnd that book is so wonderful. The little part you shared made me cry. Such a beautiful way to look at it :) I can't wait until you get to read it to Elijah for the first of many times!

What a sweet book Amy. That is a neat tradition to buy a book every year that relates to something that has happened in the past year in the child's life.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the New Year bring you little Elijah.
Merry Christmas sweet friend.

We just received this book today in the mail! I'm excited to read to my little guy...one day. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such a sweet book! It was making me want to cry just reading that little part. I know Elijah will love it!
ReplyDeleteHow perfect indeed! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful and beautiful tradition. I think I might start that with my kids. How fun for Elijah - I know I keep saying it, but I'm not sure he realized how blessed he is to be a part of your family. Look at how much you love him even though he's not home just yet! True love.
